Lily Tomlin, one of America’s foremost comediennes, continues to venture across an ever-widening range of media, starring in television, theater, motion pictures, animation, and video. Throughout her extraordinary entertainment career, Tomlin has received numerous awards, including: six Emmys; a Tony for her one woman Broadway show, Appearing Nitely; a second Tony as Best Actress, Drama Desk Award and Outer Critics’ Circle Award for her one woman performance in Jane Wagner’s The Search for Signs of Intelligent Life in the Universe; a CableAce Award for Executive Producing the film adaptation of The Search; a Grammy for her comedy album, This is a Recording as well as nominations for her subsequent albums Modern Scream, And That’s the Truth, and On Stage; and two Peabody Awards - the first for the ABC television special, Edith Ann’s Christmas:  Just Say Noël, and the second for narrating and executive producing the HBO film, The Celluloid Closet.

Tomlin’s television debut in 1966 on The Garry Moore Show and many memorable appearances on The Merv Griffin Show led to a regular role on Music Scene.

In December 1969, Tomlin joined the cast of the top-rated Laugh-In and immediately rose to national prominence with her characterizations of Ernestine, the irascible telephone operator, and Edith Ann, the devilish six year old. Tomlin went on to co-write and star in six comedy television specials. She also starred in HBO’s And the Band Played On. She has guest starred on numerous television shows, including Homicide, X-Files, Will and Grace, and Murphy Brown. She is also heard as the voice of the science teacher Ms. Frizzle on The Magic School Bus.

Ring in the new year a few days early when Manitowoc’s own musical wunderkind and Emmy Award-winning composer Garth Neustadter returns to the Capitol, with his parents, Kris and Gary, and some very special guests, for a feel-good variety show of exceptional music and entertainment with A Garth Neustadter Trio New Year. Building on the success of their 2012 The Lakeshore Goes Hollywood and December Christmas shows, this new production will again offer two performances to meet the demand of our local audiences and the many “friends of Garth”. Special performance guests to be announced at a future date. Garth’s career is sure to take him far, so we’re bringing him home to the Capitol stage while we still can!

Matt says: “We have a very special bond with Garth, Gary, and Kris. How wonderful that such versatile talent springs from this community. This year-end, New Year’s variety show will be full of wonderful music and a number of special guests.”


With more than 20 years as a stand-up comedian, Tom Papa has found success in film, television, and radio as well as on the stage. On July 26, Tom will star in his second one-hour stand-up special, Tom Papa: Freaked Out, directed by Rob Zombie and in May, Tom was seen alongside Michael Douglas and Matt Damon in the critically-acclaimed HBO film, Behind the Candelabra. A regular guest on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, CONAN, and The Late Show with David Letterman, Tom is the host of the hit Sirius/XM show, Come to Papa, a weekly, hour-long program featuring extended interviews with comedians including Mel Brooks, Ray Romano, Carl Reiner, and Jerry Seinfeld. “Tom is a very popular and very funny headline comedian. He’s not played this part of the country before; we are very pleased to introduce him to the Midwest. DIAMOND RIO | FEB. 8, 2014

Country Music fans will be sure to get their tickets early when the award-winning and chart-topping band, Diamond Rio comes to the Capitol on Saturday, Feb. 8, 2014. Six-time Vocal Group of the Year, Diamond Rio won their first Grammy for their album The Reason on Word Records, which also garnered the band their first Dove award. Formed in 1984, Diamond Rio is one of the most successful careers in country music... selling more than 10 million albums, earning three platinum and five gold records, winning the Country Music Association’s Vocal Group of the Year award four times, netting two Academy of Country Music Awards in the top Vocal Group of the Year category, and receiving thirteen Grammy nominations!

Said Schliesman, “Few artists can boast the success and longevity of Diamond Rio. They’ve been on our wish-list for years; this is the year we’re making that wish come true. Imagine them in the Capitol… all I can say is ‘wow’!”


The Capitol knows that everyone is a bit Irish on the Lakeshore in March, so pop on your kilt and woolens (leprechaun stockings optional) and celebrate the exuberance of St. Patrick’s Day with the sizzling music and moves of  Atlantic Steps, presently the hottest Irish-themed show touring North America. The well-known Cunningham family of dancers regularly perform alongside Irish greats including Dé Danann, The Chieftains, Sharon Shannon, Altan, Dervish & Téada. Through thrilling music and choregraphy, Atlantic Steps brings to life one of the most inspiring and ancient  Irish entertainments, presented with dazzling musicians and dancers.

“I discovered this new touring show last fall at a booking conference, and contracted them on the spot. This is a truly exceptional and energizing night of music and dance – the best of the Emerald Isle right on our stage,” Schliesman stated.


The season concludes on Friday, April 25, 2014 with “The Hit Men... featuring former stars of Frankie Valli & The Four Seasons”. “The Hit Men” are a collection of hit-makers whose friendships and individual record successes have been interweaving with each other for most of their lives. The band includes former members of mega star acts like Frankie Valli & The Four Seasons, Tommy James and the Shondells, The Critters, Cat Stevens, Jim Croce, Elton John & Kiki Dee, and Carly Simon among others. Delight in classics of the 60’s and 70’s including Oh, What A Night, Who Loves You, Rag Doll, Walk Like a Man, Sherry, Peace Train, Leroy Brown, You’re So Vain, and Mony Mony, from the men who made the hits.

According to Schliesman, “The resumes of these musicians cannot be matched. The music they helped to create and the music they will share with the Capitol audience will erase the years, and have everyone on their feet wanting more!”
