Danny Gokey, former truck driver and church music director, rose to national fame quickly as he sang his way to a third-place finish on "American Idol" in 2009. He impressed judges with his versatility; while Gokey made it clear that he could sing any style of music, he chose a career as a country artist thanks in part to mentoring by country star Randy Travis. The choice paid off!
Gokey was nominated as Artist of the Year: Breakthrough Artist for the new American Country Award. In March of 2010, he made chart history with the release of his debut album, "My Best Days," which set a digital sales record and delivered the best first-week sales of any debut country male in 18 years.
