"The Lakeshore goes Hollywood: A Celebration of Garth Neustadter's Emmy Award" was held on March 16, 2012 at the Capitol Civic Centre. Neustadter became one of the youngest composers to receive a Primetime Emmy Award in 2011 for his score for the PBS ‘American Masters’ documentary, “John Muir in the New World.” Raised in Manitowoc and a graduate of Manitowoc Lutheran High School and Lawrence University, Appleton, Wis., Neustadter is presently studying composition at Yale University, New Haven, Conn.
The March 16 concert celebrated Neustadter’s accomplishments and featured the Garth Neustadter Trio, which includes parents Kris and Gary Neustadter of Manitowoc. Manitowoc Mayor Justin Nickels, a Lutheran High classmate and friend of Garth, served as emcee. The event was a fundraiser for the Capitol Civic Centre, an organization that the Neustadters feel strongly about and a stage where they have performed a number of times.
According to Capitol Executive Director, Matt Schliesman, “We join this community in feeling great pride over Garth’s truly exceptional accomplishment. He is a shining example of the magic of Manitowoc and the Lakeshore, and a shining example of why arts and culture are important to all of us. As the Lakeshore’s Performing Arts Center, we are grateful to Garth, Gary and Kris Neustadter for making this Capitol Civic Centre fundraiser possible. We enjoyed a very special and memorable evening!”
